Hiya! My Name is Sutha, I’m the face behind the Instagram Page @_.s.a.l.a.d._. I’m so excited and honoured to be featured in this edition.

First, I often get asked why I went with S A L A D, especially with all the dots and underscores... So let me tell you the story behind it! It’s very simple.

The letters represent the first letter of everyone in my Household. S is for me, A is my husband and the rest are my beautiful children. Just like that, we are a mix of salad and go very well together.

Born and raised to vegetarian Tamil parents in Germany, I had to adapt to too many cultural traditions. During my teenage years, I struggled to understand the cooking procedures of various South Indian foods. It is not that easy when you have countless dishes that include so many different ways of cooking and measures.

Tamil cuisine is perhaps one of the oldest vegetarian cultures of the world. It’s also known for its aromatic, flavorful and spicy food. The recipes create a unique blend of spices that makes the food very tempting, nutritious and wholesome. It includes vegetables, dairy and many spices. With all the hefty ups and downs in my life, I have had the time to learn to be a better cook!

My love for baking comes from German culture. Growing up with a lot of bread, pastries, cakes and so many other things awakened my curiosity and interest in my early teenage years.

Since I don’t eat eggs, buying cakes without eggs that taste good, is not the easiest. That led me to adapt my mother’s eggless cake recipe, which I did during my early baking days. Later on, it was less of a struggle since we found egg replacements. From then on, I have been non-stop baking! I also have finally figured out how to bake Sourdough bread which is my happy therapy for the last year. I’ve combined my love of baking and cooking with my love of photography to create beautiful food photos.

One thing I have definitely learned is, that you need to pursue anything with passion and love. Having the passion provides me with the energy and motivation to achieve my food and photography content creation goals.
